An Endo Warrior’s Wail employs the intimate medium of book art to suggest, communicate and comment on endometriosis, which remains under researched and poorly diagnosed despite human knowledge of the condition for millenia. The monochromatic topographic imagery maps the disease’s illegibility, both internally to patients seeking answers, and externally within medicine as a condition worthy of notice and study. Ultimately, An Endo Warrior’s Wail seeks to elicit contemplation about how we orient our stories to our bodies, and our bodies to our collective histories across space and time. Completed in 2017, I exhibited the work in four exhibitions, two of which were national juried shows. At the Alfred State exhibition in the Bret Llewellyn Gallery, I was awarded Juror’s Choice. The book is in an edition of 6. All copies are privately held excepting one copy, which is held in the RIT Cary Graphic Arts Collection at the Rochester Institute of Technology.
